AEC FOR THE COMMERCE SECTOR: WHAT'S NEW IN THE RENEWAL
On 4 June 2025, Confcommercio, Confcooperative, Confesercenti – representing employers – and CGIL Filcams, FISASCAT CISL, UILTuCS, UGL Terziario, FNAARC, USARCI, and FIARC – on behalf of the trade unions – signed a draft agreement to renew the Collective Economic Agreement (AEC) for Sales Agents and Representatives in the commercial sector, sixteen years after the last agreement.
The renewed agreement, which will run from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2029 and affects around 200,000 commercial agents in Italy, introduces new features that reflect current market trends and the contemporary activities of commercial agents since it provides for the extension of protections in light of technological and commercial developments.
Specifically, the renewed agreement, among the others:
- strengthens the protection of agents in the event of unilateral changes by the grantor regarding territory, products, customers and commissions;
- introduces restrictions on the use of fixed-term contracts, the right to commissions on online sales and the right to compensation for agents operating as partnerships in the event of retirement or disability of a partner;
- extends the basis for calculating indemnities, including severance pay;
- increases the ceilings for calculating the Termination Indemnity Fund (FIRR);
- increases the notice period in the event of termination of the relationship by the Principal.
